Distressed farmers from the Jaunpur development region, whose cash crops damaged in hailstorm and heavy rain on June 19, have demanded immediate survey and compensation from the authorities.

Amender Bisht, zila panchayat member from Tehri, said farmers from the region had suffered immense losses due to the recent rain. He said a meeting of farmers had been called at Jaagdhar on 23 June to discuss problems faced by them.

Bisht said farmers from Dvean, Ghansi, Myani, Hadiya Gaon, Tikri and Matli had sown cash crops such as tomato, this time. However, their entire crops had damaged.

Apple, walnut mango and other fruit growers had also also suffered immense losses.

Shoorvir Singh Panwar, Bhola Singh, Shanti Singh, Sunil Negi and Rajesh Aswal said they had lost their entire savings and had no source of livelihood left.

Bisht said he would support farmers in this hour of crisis. He called upon them to attend the June 23 meeting.
