Depression in sea, 328 km away from Porbandar, may bring good rains this week

Ahmedabad

Parts of Gujarat are likely to receive bountiful rain in the next few days due to depression over the Arabian sea, the officials said today.

Scientists of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) centre here said they are hopeful the depression over the Arabian Sea will turn into deep depression and bring good rainfall to Saurashtra and North Gujarat regions.

“The depression over Arabian Sea lay centered about 320 km Southwest off Porbandar. The system is likely to move slowly in West-Northwestwards direction and concentrate into a deep depression over the next 24 hours.

“Our calculations say the system will cross over Saurashtra and Kutch regions after two days. If it crosses our land boundary in Saurashtra and Kutch, it will bring good rains in those areas,” IMD Gujarat centre Director Jayanta Sarkar said.

“On the third day the system will pass over North Gujarat and bring good rains in that region also,” he added.

Meanwhile, the IMD centre has advised fishermen not to venture in the sea for the next few days.

Ports in South and North Gujarat have been asked to hoist appropriate warning signals in view of the adverse weather condition.

The monsoon has not covered the entire state and is active only over South Gujarat, it added.
