Rain lashes Kanyakumari

Rain with occasional thundershowers occurred in many parts of Kanyakumari district on Saturday night. Kannimar recorded the maximum rainfall of 32.5 mm.

Intermittent rain was experienced in Nagercoil, Aralvoimozhi, Mayiladi, Anaikkidangu, Kottaram, Boothapandi and Surulode from Saturday evening.

Drizzling continues in hilly areas, resulting in a good flow of water in Tirparappu falls which attracts more number of tourists.

As the catchment areas of the dams in the district have received good rain, water level in several waterbodies increased considerably. The water level in Perunchani dam touched 73.85 feet as against its total height of 77 feet, with an inflow of 437 cusecs and a discharge of 50 cusecs.

The level in Pechiparai dam stood at 40.40 feet as against its full height of 48 feet on Sunday morning, with an inflow of 430 cusecs and an outflow of 168 cusecs.

Rainfall recorded at various places in the district is (in mm): Pechiparai – 25.4, Kottaram – 25.2, Adayamadai – 21, Surulode – 19, Mayiladi – 18.2, Aralvoimozhi – 17.6, Anaikkidangu – 15, Balamore – 13.5, Puthananai – 12.8, Perunchani – 12.2, Kozhiporvilai – 8.2, Kurunthancode – 5.2, Nagercoil – 5 and Colachel – 3.
