President of the Punjab unit of Students’ Organization of India (SOI) Vikramjit Singh (alias Vicky Middukhera) was caught allegedly cheating in the PU-LLB entrance examination held at Panjab University on Sunday morning. Following the incident, his candidature was cancelled.

Narrating the series of events that took place at Centre 15, where Vikramjit was writing the exam, Divyanshu Budhiraja, president of PU Students’ Council, said, “Vicky was caught with a cellphone inside the examination hall. However, as soon as the invigilator called for the superintendent, he pushed them away and ran from the exam hall.”

PU vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover said, “A complaint has been registered by the superintendent and the student’s candidature has been cancelled.”

A student witness at the examination hall, who did not wish to be named, told the Newsline, “Vicky was indeed in possession of a cellphone, and on being confronted, he ran away.”

Members of National Students’ Union of India also held a protest outside the office of the vice-chancellor demanding registration of a case.

Festive offer

“A DDR has been registered against Vikramjit Singh around 11.30 in the morning,” said Narinder Patial, SHO at the Sector 11 Police Station.

Vikramjit, however, denied indulging in any form of malpractice inside the examination hall. “These are mere allegations against me, to defame SOI. The exam started at 10.00 am, and I reached there by 9.55 am. The exam got over at 11.30, and I was out of the hall by 11.35 am.”

Singh also claimed that he did not run from the examination hall, and is open to any form of inquiry.

“The examination hall is on the second floor, and there is only one exit. It is not possible for anyone to run without being caught. I did not break any examination protocol. The authorities can check the CCTV footage.”
