Vid receives excess rains in last 3 weeks
NAGPUR: The city has already received more than twice its share of rains for the month of June. Except Buldhana, all other places in the region have received excess rainfall over the last three weeks. Between the mornings of Saturday and Sunday, Chandrapur had received 200mm rainfall, the second highest in the country. Heavy rainfall is expected all through Central India over the next few days.
By Sunday morning, Nagpur had already received 96% more rainfall than is expected by this time in the season. With rains throughout the afternoon and evening, this proportion increased further, with the total rainfall received in the city since June 1 reaching 306.8mm. Having received more than twice its expected rainfall, Amravati leads the region in terms of excess rainfall. In terms of absolute rainfall figures, Chandrapur has received the highest amount of rains in Vidarbha at 462mm, 200m of which was received this weekend alone.
“The already vigorous monsoon activity in the region is expected to be further strengthened in the next few days. A depression that was lying over southern Odisha has moved inward towards the mainland. This system clashing with the monsoon winds would bring more rains to Central India,” informed an official of the regional met department. He added that for the next three days, high intensity rainfall is expected over most places in Vidarbha. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning to be alert for the next couple of days.
In the next five days, the city and region are expected to have overcast skies throughout the day. Rains and thunder activities will be seen intermittently through the week.
For more than a week, temperatures have remained well below the normal mark all across the region. Over the next few days, temperatures are expected to fall further by a couple of degrees. On Sunday, the maximum temperature of Nagpur was four degrees below normal at 31 degrees while the minimum temperature was 22.6 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees below normal. The temperature is expected to be within the range of 21 and 30 degrees on the Celsius scale over the next couple of days.
