Deporting fugitives: Last year, 21 look out circulars were issued daily on an average

According to latest data compiled by the Bureau of Immigration, in 2014, as many as 23,524 Indians were deported, 85 per cent from the following 10 countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Singapore, UK, Hong Kong, USA, Kuwait and Qatar.

While Thailand accounted for deportation of 4,474 Indians, Malaysia sent back 3,624 Indians, Saudi Arabia 3,055 and UAE 2,659.

The reasons for deportations varied from overstaying to forgery in passport, photo substitution and forged visa. Around 2,659 Indians were deported from UAE as the country has iris scan facilities.

An official said, in the past three years there has been an increase in the number of Indians who were deported from various countries. In 2012, the number stood at 17,023, in 2013 it was 22,126 and in 2014, it stood at 23,524.

The number of foreigners deported from India was 2,847, against 6,903 in 2013. Nigeria lead the count, with 1,110, followed by Bangladesh-989 and Pakistan 101.

Not only this, India refused entry to 1,931 passengers.
