A 24-year-old youth was allegedly shot dead in broad day light by police in Domana area near Jammu on Sunday afternoon.
Identified as Tarsem Lal of Chinore, sources said that he along with two others was arrested by Special Operation Group (SOG) in connection with a case of narcotics smuggling in Gandhi Nagar area on Saturday.
The other two people included Kamal Sharma, 17, and Irfaan, 19, both residents of Chinore. They were travelling in a car No.JK02T 0091 at the time of their arrest.
Tarsem, according to police, was arrested in connection with charas smuggling in 2007 and 2011 as well.
On Sunday afternoon, when all the three were being taken to Domana police station, Tarseem jumped out of the police gypsy and tried to run away. The SOG personnel opened fire killing him on the spot.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. The police have registered a case and started investigations.
