INDORE: Last rites of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Dewas, Tukoji Rao Puar were performed as per royal traditions on Saturday.
Tukoji Rao Puar died of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Indore on Friday. People from all walks of life turned up in large numbers at Rajwada to pay homage to the departed soul. Traders also downed shutters on their own to mourn the leader’s death.

Prior to performing last rites, rajtilak of Tukojirao’s son Vikram Singh Puar was done as per traditions of the royal family. Vikram Singh is an accused in murder case and is out on bail.
Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Thavar Chand Gehlot, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former chief minister of state and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh along with several ministers of state including Kailash Vijaywargiya, Deepak Joshi along with several MLAs were present at funeral.
The last rites were performed at Chhattri situated at Rajwada. Tukoji Rao Puar was the son of last ruler of Dewas estate Krishnajirao III and won the assembly elections six times from Dewas. He also served the state government as minister of sports and youth welfare, tourism, higher and technical education minister.
