The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand in Thrissur will soon get a facelift.

At a high-level meeting convened by Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Friday, it was decided that more facilities for passengers would be set up at the bus stand.

The existing structure and layout of the bus stand will be re-arranged. The Minister has directed KSRTC managing director Antony Chacko to take necessary steps for the rearrangement.

Mr. Radhakrishnan, who visited the KSRTC bus stand, held discussions with elected representatives and high-level officials about the development project, which would be implemented in three phases. “The first phase will begin this year itself,” the Minister said.

A committee comprising the KSRTC managing director, chief engineer and general manger will plan draw up a project plan. The committee along with elected representatives will prepare a draft report. The Minister has asked the committee to submit the report within two months.

“The project will be implemented in a transparent manner. We will also check whether the public private partnership mode of development is possible for the project,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

The elected representatives, who participated in the meeting, pointed out the lack of facilities at the bus stand, and sought a master plan with long-term vision. Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, KSRTC MD Antony Chacko, Chief Whip Thomas Unniyadan and Mayor Rajan Pallan participated in the meeting.

A temporary KSRTC bus stand will be set up at Sakthan Nagar till the renovation of the KSRTC stand is completed. The corporation has offered all facilities for the temporary stand. Mayor Rajan Pallan said five acres of land would be given for setting up the temporary stand.
