Daithi Regan claims Joe Canning was booked against Dublin for 'sledging'

Referee Brian Gavin was criticised for booking Joe Canning and Alan Nolan after the Galway man had just scored Galway's fourth goal on their way to a comfortable Leinster quarter-final win over Dublin.
The pair tangled after the goal and were separated by Conal Keaney and afterwards they were brandished with yellow cards.
There was confusion among viewers as to why Canning merited a yellow considering that he appeared to be the victim.
Former Offaly star Daithi Regan told Off The Ball on Newstalk last night that Canning was not booked for pulling down Nolan but for sledging.
"Interestingly, Brian Gavin mentioned to me after the Galway-Dublin game when he booked Joe Canning, he said, 'no-one knows why I booked Joe Canning. It wasn't for throwing the goalkeeper to the ground. It was for sledging," he said.
