Soon, BU hostel for northeast students

Bangalore University has decided to provide free land for construction of a hostel predominately for women students of north-eastern states. In a Syndicate meeting held on Friday, a decision was taken to provide 22,000 square feet of land in the campus adjacent to National Law School of India University for the construction of a three-storied building. The land will be provided to the North Eastern Council, a Union government agency which works for the developments of students of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.


University registrar K K Seethamma said, “During interactions with the council, they showed willingness to build a hostel for north-eastern female students. At present, Delhi has a separate hostel for the students of north-eastern states. The council has come forward to build the hostel by spending Rs 13.85 crore. Talks are on with them to have 25 per cent other students in the hostel.”
As per the plan proposed, the three-floor hostel building will have 96 rooms and can accommodate 360 students.

Other decisions

The Syndicate also gave its approval for spending Rs 1.50 crore for renovation of PhD and physical education hostels. Among the other decisions taken, affiliation for 29 colleges have been extended and with more in-take of students. Colleges have been directed to follow guidelines of reservations while appointing teachers and admitting students.
