Mampi tackles stripping of women

mampi

Cases of women being stripped naked by call- boys who regard their dressing as indecent are commonplace. Now Mampi, herself known for her sleek outfits, has released a song titled Boyo, which talks about the very issue.
On the song, Mampi first makes a moral appeal to those involved in stripping women, asking them to provide a chitenge if they strongly feel that the dressing falls below what is generally accepted by the public. Then she gives them something to think about – that the very woman being stripped could be a sister from their father’s other wife.
Either way, it is a touchy subject by Mampi as the issue of dressing, and particularly indecent dressing, always sharply divides the public.
Early in her career, she was herself subject to criticism from some sections of society who thought some of her stage outfits were too skimpy and wanted her to moderate. But she stuck to her guns, insisting it was part of her art, It goes with the job.
Even as they were criticising her, they were always too happy to watch her performance and see her latest stage outfit.

In releasing “Boyo”, Mampi is trying to address an issue that pops up time and again. And whenever there is case of a woman being stripped, there are always two sides – one supporting the right of women to wear whatever they are comfortable with and the other suggesting that the stripped woman has rightfully got what she asked for with her dressing.

  1. Bring back imibinde chapwa!!! Look at Mampi’s dressing? it’s better to walk naked than to dress cheap like that.

  2. And LT thinks this is worthy of reporting. What a load of rubbish!

Totally agree with you fashion taste.

Is that a squirrel on her head in the first picture?

  3. This is correct but colonel Garry chanda is doing nothing to improve the 55 road off mumbwa road.our cars are damaged ,where is CDF money to just improve that road.I realy doubt if this MP is military trained.

  4. Without doubt the stripping of women is barbaric and needs to be condemned by society. This is justifiably because it’s not a panacea to this recurring problem. My statement here, though, is about chasing the prey first and then coming back to scold the chicks. The dressing of some girls and women need chastising in equal measure.
Times without number I have heard women say I will dress what I am comfortable with. I find this dogma fundamentally flawed. This may be an extreme example but would one move about in a pant in a street in October because she is confortable in it. Surely not but any woman can do so freely in the confines of one’s bedroom. This in my humble view means besides comfort there are societal expectations of decency one should factor in when choosing what to dress…

  5. continued from above..

Spending inordinate length of time condemning those that strip women and saying nothing on those that reveal so much is, in my view, a disingenuous denial of what we need to do collectively. My appeal to our girls, ladies and Aunties is you are priceless to allow every Jim and Jack take a look so exercise restraint. You can keep abreast with latest trends even without needlessly exposing your selves. Let me end here before someone reminds me of being a villager that Iam.
