Seven members of the Dao Din Group of anti-coup protesters from Khon Kaen University failed to report to police as required on Friday afternoon.

The seven — Chatupat Boonyapatraksa, Apiwat Suntararak, Payu Boonsopon, Panupong Srithananuwat, Suvicha Tipangkorn, Supachai Pukrongploy and Wasant Satesit — were arrested on May 22, the first anniversary of the military coup, during a protest at the democracy monument in downtown Khon Kaen.

They were charged with banning the order of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) against gatherings of more than five people.

The seven students were released on bail twice after their arrest. They were due to report to report to Muang district police on Friday for further judicial proceedings.

But as of 4.30pm on Friday, the seven had not shown up.

Pol Col Noppadol Phetsuth, chief of Muang district police, said investigators had reported the matter to prosecutors from the 23rd Army Circle in Khon Kaen.

The police will now confiscate the students' bail collateral of 7,500 baht each, or a total of 52,500 baht.

A joint military and police committee will also consider issuing a final summons for the seven students to report to police.

If they fail to respond, military prosecutors and the military court of the 23rd Army Circle would be asked to issue a warrant for their arreste for further indictment, Pol Col Noppadol said.

Earlier on Friday, three law students from Khon Kaen University were detained and taken by police and soldiers to Sripatcharin military camp for questioning, but they were released about three hours later.

The students — Kwanhathai Pathumthavornsakul, Jiratchaya Harnnarong and Krit Saengsuri — were stopped while on their way to place portraits of the seven Dao Din Group students at the democracy monument in Khon Kaen in a show of support for the protesters.
