BARNALA: Owing to a dispute over sharing of water, a farmer was killed at Kaleke village in Barnala district on Thursday. Police have registered case against four members of a family who owns a farm near to the deceased farmer's fields.
Farmer Hargopal Singh said his brother Gora Singh, 47, had five acres of land and on Thursday morning, had gone to the fields to get paddy transplanted.
"Our neighbours Major Singh and his sons attacked Gora with sharp-edged weapons. When I saw Major attacking my brother, I ran towards them but they fled after seriously injuring him. He was declared brought dead when taken to Dhanaula civil hospital," Hargopal alleged in his complaint to police. He also alleged they had a feud with Major's family over sharing of water from the channel passing through their fields.
Rureke SHO Parminder Singh said that a murder case had been registered against Major and his sons Baljit Singh and Gurpreet Singh and grandson Bagga Singh. "Efforts are being made to arrest them," the SHO said.
