Many city students have made it to the IIT-JEE (Advanced) this year.

Saket Digliwal with the all-India rank of 53 was declared the state topper, a press note issued by a coaching centre claimed.

Besides, two students of the Nishan-e-Sikhi Foundation at Khadoor Sahib, Tarlochan Singh and Simranjit Singh, have also excelled in the exam, making their institution proud.

Other students who made the city proud are Haresh Khanna and Kartik Gupta, securing the all-India ranks 392 and 762, respectively.

The results of the Joint Entrance Examination for entry to the country’s top engineering colleges that were announced today provided another opportunity to the students of the border district to display their brilliance.

Saket Dingliwal has got 377 marks out of 504 in the JEE (Advanced). He secured the all-India rank 53, emerging as the highest-scoring student in Punjab. He had performed remarkably in the board examination and secured 92.4 per cent.

Haresh Khanna scored 313 marks out of 504 in the JEE (Advanced). In the board examination, he had performed exceptionally well and secured 95.8 per cent. Kartik Gupta scored 287 marks in the test and in the board exams, he secured 96.4 per cent.

A total of eight students qualified in the general category from a local coaching institute. Other names with an all-india rank are Arjun Mehra (2950), Aashish Sharma ( 9255), Nandit Mehra (15607), Saksham Sondhi (18003) and Jodhjeet Singh (20262).

“Getting into an IIT is the dream of every student and this dream has become more challenging with the importance of board marks in their success,” said Saket Dingliwal.

Two students of Spring Dale Senior School made their mark in various competitive exams — one in JEE (Advanced) 2015 and another in the entrance exam for the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun.

Shiv Karan Singh secured the 1215th rank in JEE (Advanced) in the SC category and Ajayveer Singh got the 172nd rank in the entrance exam to the UPES, Dehradun, securing a seat there.

“The school is proud of the achievements of these students,” said Dr Kirat Sandhu Cheema, director, Spring Dale Senior School, and Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, managing trustee, Spring Dale Educational Society.

Creating history in the field of science education, two students from Khadur Sahib-based Nishan-e-Sikhi Institute of Science Studies (NESISS), running under the patronage of noted environmentalist Baba Sewa Singh Kar Sewa Wale, cleared the IIT-JEE (Advanced), qualifying for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

Tarlochan Singh, resident of Rayya (district Amritsar), secured the 1279th rank in the IIT-JEE (Advanced) results and Simranjit Singh from Bania village near Dhoolka (district Amritsar) secured the 14400th rank.

The director of the institute, Gursharanjit Singh Mann, said, “The whole credit goes to the students and faculty members Pankaj Kumar, Anand Kumar, Vinkul Parshad and Dr Vibhanshu Gupta”.
