McMaster honoured for ongoing commitment to Hamilton Harbour

The Bay Area Restoration Council has recognized McMaster for its work in support of Hamilton Harbour and its neighbouring watersheds.
The community-based non-profit group, whose mandate includes promotes, monitors and assesses the Remedial Action Plan for Hamilton Harbour, recognized McMaster with an Implementation Award during its annual general meeting this week.
The citation for the award reads as follows: “For renewed leadership under President Patrick Deane in establishing the President’s Advisory Committee on Natural Lands and increasingly embracing outdoor education. For continuous logistical support to BARC, since 1991, by the Department of Biology, and for a wealth of research from across disciplines that has been vital to the ongoing successes of the Hamilton Harbour Remedial Action Plan.”
Dean of Science Rob Baker accepted the award on behalf of the University.
The meeting also included updates on several important environmental remediation projects, including the return of the McMaster lands on lower Lions Club Road to a natural state, with the replacement of invasive species with native trees and prairie grasses.
