CBI arrests CPWD engineer taking Rs 2 lakh bribe in Madhya Pradesh

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an assistant engineer of central public works department (CPWD) (Civil) posted in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh allegedly while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs from representative of a Haryana based constructing company.

BHOPAL: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested an assistant engineer of central public works department (CPWD) (Civil) in Jabalpur district for allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh as bribe from representative of a Himachal Pradesh construction company. Accused Rajesh Singh, who was looking after Indian Institute of information Technology design and manufacturing (IIITDM) Project, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting first instalment of Rs 5 lakh bribe he had demanded from Karan Jasrai, Technical representative of M/s Paramjit Saini & Company, Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, for sanctioning a loan of Rs 27 lakh, an official release said.

Singh was demanding Rs 5 lakh as commission for sanctioning loan, which he reduced to Rs 4.5 lakh after negotiations. The conversation was recorded.
Jasrai had made a written complaint with the department. After subsequent verification thereof CBI, ACB, Jabalpur registered a case under Section 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Singh. When the complainant told that he can arrange only Rs 2 lakh and rest would be paid in 2-3 days, the accused agreed for the same.
Accordingly, on Thursday evening the accused called complainant at his office at IIITDM, Jabalpur and took Rs 2 lakh.
After obtaining the bribe, the accused kept it in his briefcase in office almirah and the same was recovered from there. Searches are being conducted at residence of the accused in Jabalpur.
