IDSFFK from June 26

The eighth edition of the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) will be held in the capital city from June 26 to 30.

The festival is being organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy as part of its endeavour to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement.

A total of 210 works from 35 countries will be featured in this year’s IDSFFK, said Chalachitra Academy chairman Rajeevnath in a press conference here on Tuesday.

The festival will be held at the Kairali, Sree, and Nila theatres. As part of the festival, national level competitions will be held in short fiction, documentary, and music videos. At the State-level, a campus film competition will also be there. In the competition category, 124 works were selected from a total of 700 entries.

The focus of this year’s festival will be on animation films. Workshops and master classes in animation will be held as part of this. Amit Dutta, one of the most significant contemporary practitioners of experimental cinema known for his distinctive style of filmmaking, will be the filmmaker in focus.

Ten of his films will be screened at the festival – Chitrashala , Even red can be sad , Field trip , Future of cinema , Gita Govinda , Jangarh Film- one , Nainsukh , Ramkhind , The Museum of Imagination: A portrait of absentia , and The Seventh Walk .

The country in focus will be South Korea. The best of Korean short films from the past year will be screened. The delegate registration has started. Delegate fee is Rs.100. A bank service charge of Rs.25 will also be deducted. The delegate fee can be paid at any SBT branch in the country, five hours after the online registration. The passes can be collected from June 25 at the academy office in Sasthamangalam here and from June 26 at the Kairali theatre complex.
