To sensitise bike riders to the need for wearing helmets, an awareness rally was taken out here on Wednesday.

Since the High Court made it mandatory to wear helmets from July 1, the district police has stepped up awareness campaigns. Wearing helmets, campaigners, including students, police personnel and other volunteers took out the rally, which was flagged off by Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis.

He said riding two-wheelers with helmets could reduce fatal risks on roads. The campaigners carried placards, which appealed to two-wheeler riders to ‘ensure safe driving with helmets to prevent fatal accident’ and ‘ride bikes by using helmets will save your lives.’

Assistant Superintendent of Police P. Arun Sakthi Kumar, Regional Transport Officer K. Anand and others participated.

At Kovilpatti, a similar rally was organised. Kovilpatti Assistant Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha flagged off the rally.
