French official faces charge of sexually abusing daughter

Pascal Mazurier, the French national accused of raping his own daughter, has been playing the emotional card saying his father can’t wait to see his grandchildren. Mazurier, on Monday, approached the High Court to appeal for extended time with his children. Pascal was arrested three years ago by city police after his wife lodged a complaint against him of sexually abusing their then three-year old daughter. An additional chargesheet was filed in January 2013 with detailed reports from doctors that confirmed their daughter had been sodomised and raped. He was in jail for more than four months and later released on bail.

His trial began in February this year though only 3 out of 50 listed witnesses testified in court.

After consideration, a family court granted him an hour’s time each month to be able to see two of his other children. He was denied permission to meet his daughter.

“My father is in the city. He is (unwell) and asks to see the children every day. He had (last) seen the children in 2013 in the court for a little while,” Mazurier said.

Jacques, the senior Mazurier, meanwhile, made an appeal of his own. He said, “I have stayed away from the family always I was part of French Navy. I have retired now and I am not able to see my grandchildren. I am not the accused in this case. It’s my right to (spend time) with the children.”

Pascal complained about the slow pace of the trial saying nothing was moving in court. In August last year, Mauzrier had, in a letter to PM Modi, requested for the case to be put in a fast track court since it was his ‘grandmother’s last wish’ to see him.
