LUCKNOW: Two constables were suspended on Wednesday for allegedly demanding bribe from a truck driver. The duo, Shyam Nandan Tiwari and Ameen Azmi, posted in Aliganj police station, were on patrol on Tuesday night when they started chasing an overspeeding truck from Dandiya and intercepted it a speeding truck near Gole market.
On reaching closer constables Shyam Nandan Tiwari and Ameen Azami found out that the truck driver had rammed into a roadside tea vendor’s cart.
After a brief chase the truck was intercepted near Gole Market.
The nabbed truck driver meanwhile maintained he was not the culprit and the errant one had escaped.
The two constables nonetheless demanded money to allow the truck driver to go, as per allegations. Station house officer of Mahanagar, Sanjay Nath Tiwari reached the spot and sent a report against the two constables who were posted in Aliganj. District police spokesperson Alok Pathak said that the two would be suspended. “The two had not alerted Mahanagar or sounded alert on wireless,” added Pathak.
