Former Manchester City and Galatasaray midfielder Elano will rejoin Chennaiyin for the 2015 Indian Super League (ISL) after agreeing a loan move from parent club Santos.
The ex-Brazil international returns as the franchise’s marquee player, after eight goals in his first six matches for the franchise in last year’s ISL saw him emerge as the league’s Golden Boot winner.
The 34-year-old’s form in last year’s inaugural league earned him a move back to Santos where he helped them claim the Sao Paolo state championship earlier this year.
“I am thrilled to sign for Chennaiyin FC to play in the second season of the ISL,” Elano said.
“I have fantastic memories of my first season in India, where I really enjoyed performing in front of some great support especially in our Marina Arena in Chennai.
“I credit my individual success to the wonderful support I received from the entire Chennaiyin FC family starting from the owners, management, teammates and of course the passionate fans of CFC.
“I am already looking forward to the second season and determined to make Chennaiyin FC the ISL champions this time.”
Chennaiyin CEO Ashish Shah added: “We are delighted to have retained Elano as our marquee player for the second season.
“Elano was in outstanding form from the very start of the tournament last time and inspired the rest of the team with both his performances and presence. We look forward to having a successful second season and the enormous experience and quality of Elano will be vital for us in achieving that goal.”
