Raipur: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that it's achhe din (good days) for some industrialists and bad days for poor people in Chhattisgarh.

"Modi had said that MNREGA is the worst programme but neither will he close it down to remind the failure of the Congress to the country. If he comes to your villages taking off his Rs 15-lakh suit, he will realise what benefits you get from MNREGA," he said.

Rahul was addressing a huge gathering of farmers in Dabhra village of this district after concluding his10-km-long march on foot which began from Saradih village.

"Modi will come to know how MNREGA has benefitted farmers and their sons but he will not come here. He visits USA and Australia but he will not be seen in the villages of Chhattisgarh," he said raking up the issue of the death of a child due to alleged starvation.

He added that that despite the land belonging to the poor people, the benefit goes to industrialists.

Congress had alleged that the five-year-old boy died in Surguja district of starvation after his poor father could not find any work due to lack of MNREGA jobs in the district.

"Modi will appear before you only after five years, ahead of the next election, to promise you more good days, which is when you should teach him a lesson," Rahul said.

He accused the Centre and the BJP-led Chhattisgarh government of ignoring the farmers and acquiring their land on behalf of corporates.

“We do not want such a development and won't let it happen,” said Rahul.

Taking a jibe at Modi, the Gandhi scion said that if PM decides to visit Chhattigarh after taking off Rs 15 lakh suit, then he will realise the benefits of MNERGA. "But he visits Australia and America,” Rahul added.

Gandhi is on a two-day visit to the state since yesterday as part of his nationwide campaign for the cause of farmers.
