Relief for rain-hit home denied, Kurukshetra man attempts suicide

KURUKSHETRA: A man tried to commit suicide at the Mini-Secretariat here today, alleging his grievances have not been reddressed for long.

Kurukshetra, June 16

A man tried to commit suicide at the Mini-Secretariat here today, alleging his grievances have not been reddressed for long.

Gurmukh Singh (72) of the district’s Haripur village fell unconscious after consuming a poisonous substance. His condition was said to be stable.

“In 2011, several houses, including mine, were damaged because to heavy rain. All but my family received the compensation because I refused to pay bribe to officials,” he said.

Singh further said he had submitted memorandums, sat on a dharna several times and threatened to commit suicide twice, but to no avail.

“I had submitted a memorandum to Kurukshetra DC CG Rajinikaanthan on June 13, informed him about my grievances and threatened to end my life on June 16 if the issue was not resolved. Since my grievance was not addressed, I took the step,” he said.

The DC said, “Singh’s complaint is being verified and appropriate action will be taken. If he is found eligible for the compensation, he will get it.”
