No reprieve for choreographer Geeta Kapoor in Versova mishap

There is no reprieve yet for choreographer Geeta Kapoor who is facing prosecution for rash and negligent driving and knocking down a pedestrian in March 2015.
Kapoor on Monday approached the Bombay high court claiming that she had reached a financial settlement with the victim, Nisar Noormohammed (37), and he had agreed to drop the case. The HC was, however, unconvinced with the out-of-court settlement and asked the choreographer to work out new terms. Kapoor's lawyers informed the HC that after the accident, she had taken the victim to Kokilaben Hospital for medical treatment.She had borne the medical expenses to the tune of Rs 7 lakh as Noormohammed had suffered a fracture on his right knee. The lawyers also told the court that Kapoor had handed over an additional Rs 3 lakh by cheque as compensation. They urged the court to quash the case.

The HC then inquired with Noormohammed, who was brought to the court in a wheelchair, whether he and his family were happy with the settlement terms. Noormohammed, an electrician by profession, said that he had been out of work after the accident, and had two children to look after.The court asked Kapoor and her lawyers to have another meeting with Noormohammed to work out a fresh settlement.

Kapoor (42), who was driving a sedan, had knocked down Noormohammed at Vateshwar Naka in Versova on March 12. Noormohammed was returning to his home in Versova after buying medicines when the incident occurred. Kapoor was booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code--sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
