Lokesh and K.S. Sumarani, who were recently elected unanimously as president and vice-president of the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) respectively, assumed the charge on Monday amid the chanting of Vedic hymns by a priest.

They performed puja at their offices and later took charge in the presence of the former Minister and Mandya District Congress Committee (MDCC) president M.S. Atmananda and others.

Speaking to presspersons after taking charge, they said they would work for a comprehensive development of Mandya. They said that they would take every councillor into confidence while addressing issues related to solid waste management, supply of drinking water, streetlights, roads and infrastructure development.

The Congress leaders and CMC officials greeted them.

CMC Commissioner N.M. Shashikumar, vice-president of the Sports Authority of Karnataka P.M. Somashekar, former president B. Siddaraju and others were present on the occasion.
