: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has decided to appeal to the people to donate more land for the development of the Calicut International Airport at Karipur.

The airport needs to acquire 137 acres for its expansion.

It needs 20 acres more for rehabilitation of those who would lose their land.

The party has authorised two MLAs, K.N.A. Khader and K. Mohammedunni Haji, to initiate discussions with the people in the vicinity of the airport.

Mr. Khader said here on Monday that he would try to convince the people about the need to give land for further development of the airport. The party would also try to convince the government to give increased compensation for the land to be acquired.

According to the IUML, the SDPI and the Welfare Party of India were hampering work on the development of Karipur airport.

The State committee of the Muslim Youth League (MYL) on Monday took out a protest march to the karipur airport demanding protection of the airport.

The MYL said the authorities concerned were not showing any interest in completing the recarpeting work of the runway.

E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP, inaugurated the march. Several leaders of the MYL attended the protest rally.
