Let treated sewage into Najafgarh drain: NGT to Gurgaon

The NGT has also directed HUDA to acquire land under “emergency clauses of the land acquisition law” in Sector 107, Gurgaon where the 100-mld treatment plant is proposed to come up.

“The work on the sewage plant has already begun. We will be preparing a draft proposal for acquiring around 30 acres of land in Phase I of the project,” Anita Yadav, administrator at HUDA, said.

As of now, three HUDA drain lanes meet the Najafgarh drain that carries untreated sewage along with rain water.
“The proposed 100-mld treatment plant is being constructed to treat this sewage. The proposed plant is likely to come up along drain No. 2,” a HUDA official said.

Around 200 mld of untreated water is currently getting into the Najafgarh drain every day. “Of the three drains in the city that eventually join the main Najafgarh drain, one is the Badshahpur drain, which carries a lot of chemical waste from the industries located in sectors 34 and 37 and other nearby industrial areas,” the official added.
