The district administration has launched the Programme for Result Enhancement and Resource Nurturing Assessment (PRERNA) to improve the quality of education in Government Primary Schools (GPS) in the district.

Rohan Chand Thakur, DC, launched the programme by releasing the poster of the programme that would be displayed in every school of the district. Talking to mediapersons, the DC said the quality of education was relatively poor in the school and more people were shifting towards private schools and even teachers were found least concerned about the studies.

He said the district administration initiated PRERNA to bring changes in the teaching system. He said the teachers were provided special training before the programme so that they could improve the quality in the teaching practice. He said initially PRERNA would be started in 60 schools and then would be taken to over 489 schools of the district.

He said it was a myth that students from migrant families were poor performers in comparison to those from non-migrant families. He said the research that had been conducted by the administration revealed that in some cases, migrant students had performed better than those from local families.

He said the project would assess the performance of students and teachers. He said the administration would honour the best-performing teachers and seek explanations from non-performers. He said in its earlier survey, four schools were adjudged the best, Jeoli Devi school, Dandroo, Hathol and Sameerpur school.

He said the PRERNA programme would be regularly monitored by the administration with the help of Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars apart from the authorities from the Education Department in the district. He said the efforts of the education authorities towards improvement were insufficient to bring the satisfactory level of education quality. The DC also honoured teachers for their better performance.
