Man pleads not guilty to voluntarily causing hurt

MIRI: A man yesterday pleaded not guilty before the Magistrate’s Court here to voluntarily causing hurt to a woman.

Fauzi Dan, 32, from Phase 4, Tudan was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of 10 years or whipping, or both upon conviction.

The court heard that the accused caused hurt to a woman, Ubong Marau, by slitting her right palm with a knife.

Fauzi allegedly committed the offence at 9am on July 18 in 2011 at a sawmill in Phase 1, Tudan.

After getting the not guilty plea from the accused, the court then fixed June 29 for case management, and July 23 for further mention.

Following the decision, Fauzi was allowed bail of RM2,000 in two local sureties, pending the date of the hearing.
