DNC chair fires back: Where’s Mitt Romney’s Kool-Aid?

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz chided former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney for a Monday dig at Hillary Clinton in which he said she was more concerned about the location of her next latte than the substance of her speeches.

“If he’s asking where her latte is, where is their Kool-Aid, because that’s the Republicans’ drink of choice,” Rep. Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) said Monday on MSNBC’s “The Rundown.”

“Whether it’s Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, their entire field all sing off the same song sheet, drink the same Kool-Aid. They cut taxes for the wealthiest, most fortunate Americans; they want to go back to trickle-down economics that’s been tried and failed by their party over and over again.”

{mosads}Romney made the comments on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” saying Clinton’s big Saturday speech seemed disingenuous.

“When you see her on stage or when she comes into a room full of people, she’s smiling with her mouth but her eyes are saying, ‘Where’s my latte?’ he said.

“It just doesn’t suggest that she believes in everything that she’s saying.”

Wasserman Schultz also previewed the party’s line of attack against her states’ former governor, Jeb Bush, who is set to announce his presidential bid Monday afternoon. She said that, despite his rhetoric, she’s confident the “real Jeb Bush” is the one she saw as an “inflexible and intransigent governor who always thought he was right.”

“Someone who was so focused on cutting taxes for the fortunate, it left our economy in a place where, when the Great Recession came, we were in more difficult shape than we would have been if we took a more balanced approach,” she said.

She also brought up his comments from a 20-year-old book, where he said women who give birth out of wedlock should feel shame. Bush has said recently that his views have evolved but that he still places a strong emphasis on the value of fathers in children’s lives.
