District Collector N. Prasanth puts it as yet another project to exploit the ‘big hearts’ of the people of Kozhikode.

‘Operation Sulaimani’ is nothing but an interlinking platform between the hungry and the generous.

The much-acclaimed scheme of the district administration is an attempt to realise the ‘Hunger Free City’ project of the Social Security Mission, which was started a few years ago but was eventually restricted to the Government Medical College in Kozhikode.

Channelling of funds

The scheme will facilitate the channelling the available funds in the proper manner so that the benefits go only to those who deserve it.

Inaugurating the scheme before a thickly packed audience, Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats M.K. Muneer said it would keep up the tradition of Kozhikode, the city that liked to feed every one.

He said the scheme could not have a better name than ‘Operation Sulaimani’, as Sulaimani is a drink sipped with a gratifying sense of fullness after a satisfying meal.

He appreciated the district administration and the Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association for taking up the project.

District Collector, in his address, explained the working of the scheme that ensured free food to the hungry without sacrificing their dignity.

Many hotels in the city are cooperating with the scheme. The Collector urged the public to make sure that the scheme was not misused and to open their wallets as well as hearts to feed those around them who go to sleep hungry.

A dream

Filmmaker Anjali Menon inaugurated the distribution of food coupons.

She said the scheme was a ‘dream come true’ for her, as it was her dream for Kozhikode that she had portrayed in the movie ‘Ustad Hotel.’ The scheme was named after a line from the movie ‘There is always a pinch of muhabbat (love) in Sulaimani’.

District president of KHRA Sumesh Govind presided over the inaugural function.
