The sequel to the 2012 Game of the Year lets you choose to play as either a male or female supernatural assassin.

LOS ANGELES -- The magical and supernatural steampunk world of the video game Dishonored has more secrets to reveal.

Arkane Studios unveiled its in-development sequel to 2012 Game of the Year Dishonored and the upcoming Aug. 25 release of a beefed-up Dishonored Definitive Edition ($40, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) -- the game originally released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PCs. This Definitive Edition also includes the four additional downloadable missions released individually after the initial game hit in October 2012.

Dishonored 2, targeted for a spring 2016 release, takes place 15 years after the events in Dishonored and players get the option of taking the role of original assassin Corvo Attano or as the empress Emily Kaldwin, who has power seized from her.

"Both have their own unique sets of powers, their own weapons and gadgets," said co-creative director Harvey Smith. "You can combine these things creatively to eliminate your targets as you see fit. You can play the game with weapons drawn or you can play the entire game without killing anyone."
