Ivan suggests Railway Division at Mangaluru

June 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - MANGALURU:

MLC and member of Southern Railway Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee Ivan D’Souza on Wednesday said that he would demand the creation of a separate Mangaluru zone, as people cannot be expected to go to the Divisional Railway Headquarters at Palakkad for everything.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. D’Souza said since Mangaluru region has been contributing over 80 per cent of the revenue to the Palakkad Division, it deserves to be made a railway division.

As per the original plan of Konkan Railway Corporation, its jurisdiction should have commenced from Netravati River and not from the present Thokur, he pointed out.

The MLC said he would closely work with Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha Member Nalin Kumar Kateel for improving the railway network and amenities in the region.

A super-fast train between Mangaluru and Mumbai via Vasai Road and Bandra should be started as there are only two direct trains at present, which are running full, Mr. D’Souza said.

On the occasion, Mangaluru Mayor Jacinta Vijaya Alfred opened the grievances box kept at the MLC’s office to facilitate general public to submit their grievances and suggestions.

Regarding delay in furnishing drawings of approach roads for the Padil-Bajal Railway Under Bridge, she said it was due to change in the approach gradient.

He will closely work with Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for improving the

railway network
