Three persons sustained burns in the fire that broke out at the Annavaram Sri Satyanarayana Swami temple kitchen (potu) on Saturday morning. The injured were K. Prasad, Peetala Srinu, and R. Teja. After giving first aid, temple medical officer Panduranga Rao shifted them to Apollo Hospital, Kakinada, for better medical care.

According to sources, the incident occurred when temple potu staff were engaged in making ‘prasadam’ at about 9.00 a.m. One of the staff members, Prasad, tried to fit a new LPG refill in the kitchen. Suddenly, the gas leaked from the regulator and caught fire and spread over the area.

He immediately threw the cylinder out of the kitchen to avert further damage. The staff said that there were 10 more full refills in adjacent room and flames did not enter that room. In this attempt, Mr. Prasad sustained 60 percent burn injuries and his colleagues Srinu and Teja sustained 50 and 20 percent burn injuries respectively.
