The Niranjana School located in a village in Bihar got a gigantic makeover when a Japanese NGO called the Wall Art Project invited artist Yusuke Asai to create murals in the classrooms. Asai is renowned for painting with anything he can get his hands on including natural materials like mud, dust and leaves.

With the objective of raising awareness for the importance of art in the classroom and empowering children to express their imagination, Yusuke and his team began on one of his signature paintings using 7 types of locally sourced mud, cow dung, dirt and dust. It took him 3 years to complete the project in phases. Unfortunately the paintings washed away after several months in 2014, but here are the photos documented by the artist.
