ERODE: Seven people were acquitted from a fake kidnapping case in Erode district on Wednesday.
According to court sources, the case had been registered by an unidentified group of people and they forged a police inspector's signature in the crime chargesheet. "The crime was carried out to ensure that the accused and his accomplices mentioned in the fake chargesheet were arrested," a court official said.
One of the seven persons D Anandbabu, 23, of Punjai Puliyampatty was in live with N Ranjitha, 19, about three years ago. The girl had refused his proposal when he approached her.
According to the chargesheet, Anandbabu and his accomplices P Mayilsamy, 27, T Prakash, 21, T Kamalahasan, 26, M Ponnusamy, 53, N Vaitheeswaran, 20, P Murugesan, 33, had hatched a kidnap plan and on December 5, 2012, Punjai Puliyampatty police registered a case of kidnapping based on a complaint filed by the girl's parents.
"According to the case filed, the police said they rescued the girl from the seven people and arrested the next day and on the same evening the accused had been remanded under judicial custody," V C Ajeethkumar, advocate who appeared for Anandbabu told TOI.
Three months later, the police again prepared a crime chargesheet on March 9, 2013. They submitted the chargesheet on June 13, 2014, 15 months later the chargesheet was prepared. "The twist in the case comes when inspector K Balamurugan who registered the case initially was transferred from the Punjai Puliyampatty station to Namakkal district before the chargesheet was prepared," the advocate said and added that Balamurugan's successor was also unaware about the case.

"But a few policemen who had a vendetta against Anandbadu forged Balamurugan's signature and submitted the chargesheet to court," he said.
When the case came up for hearing, the police inspector Balamurugan told district sessions court judge of fast track Mahila court in Magalir Neethimandram' N Thirunavukkarasu that the signature on the chargesheet was not his.
And the girl Ranjitha also told the judge that no one had kidnapped her on December 5, 2012. "These statements proved ample evidence and the sessions court judge Thirunavukkarasu ruled that someone from the police station had intentionally registered a fake case against the accused. Based on the judgment, he acquitted all the seven men from the case," Ajithkumar said.
The judge ordered the Coimbatore zone DIG Ayush Mani Tiwari and Erode district SP M R Sibi Chakravarthy to investigate the case and find the culprits behind the forgery. He ordered them to produce their investigative report at the earliest," the advocate said.
