NASHIK: The city police are likely to conduct a mock drill on June 21 as part of its preparation for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela. Personnel of the Quick Response Team (QRT) as well as Force One will take part in the exercise.
Senior officials said with just two months left for the mega event and the infrastructure almost getting ready for purpose, it was time that the police checked their preparedness for any kind of eventuality during the religious gathering.

Different situations would be created and the personnel concerned will be instructed to act to get things under control. While the QRT is from the city, the Force One, which would come from Mumbai, will get acquainted with the topography of Nashik and decide its strategic locations for swift action.
A few more similar exercises would be conducted to make the personnel on duty abreast with their given responsibility in different situations.
Senior police officials said over the next few days, the work of setting up closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be done.
According to the officials, a force of about 10,000 personnel was expected to arrive for Kumbh Mela. Hence, training will be imparted to these personnel as they would be the first respondents to any situation. Police officials said over the past two years, a number of training sessions on crowd management, disaster management, etc., have been conducted for the cops.

There will be separate training for personnel, who would be deployed at the control room for communication purpose during the event. Officials said though they cannot create the crowd for the mock drill on any given stretch of the city, various schemes will be devised for the purpose so that the personnel deployed in various spots during the event know exactly what their role would be.
Besides, as many as 13 teams of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) will be set up in different parts of the city. Much before the event, the BDDS would scan all the strategic locations to ensure that anti-social elements do not take disadvantage of the crowd and indulge in illegal activities.
