Milia Ali's homage to DL Roy and Atul Prasad
Noted singer-columnist Milia Ali's third solo audio CD, titled “Phirite Chahe Na Akhi”, will be launched tomorrow (June 12) at Daily Star- Bengal Arts Precinct at 5pm. In an informal and interactive programme, the artiste's friends, fellow singers and fans are expected to attend. Following the launch, the artiste will render several songs from the CD.
“Firstly, I'd like to thank Incursion Music who imposed no restrictions on my artistic freedom, and let me smoothly record the tracks with music directors of my choice. This is my solo album coming to the audio market after 7/8 years. I learned the featured songs of the album from legends like Krishna Chattopadhyay, the legendary singer of Atul Prasad and DL Roy songs; Banani Ghosh who learnt from Dilip Roy and Kanika Bandyopadhyay,” said Milia Ali.
“I felt the songs are going into oblivion. On the other hand, my vocal prowess is also waning. As I learned the songs from the legends, the originality of the numbers is unquestionable. Two of my closest friends -- Shaheen Anam, Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation and Minu Haque, noted dancer-choreographer -- continually inspired me into recording the songs. It was a two-year project that is coming into reality,” added the artiste.
Noted Indian musician Rahul Chattopadhyay directed the music for the album that features 10 tracks; of them seven are composed by Atul Prasd while three by DL Roy. The recorded songs include different styles – kirttananga, baitalik and rare melodious songs like “Rakhte Jodi Apon Ghor-e”, “Eki Shyamol Shushoma”, “Mora Nachi Phul-e Phul-e”, “Chahi Autripto Nayane”, “Ami Badhinu Tomar Teer-e”, “Mor Anginaye Aji Pakhi”, “Kotokal Thakbo Bosey”, “Ogo Amar Nabin Sathi” and “Ami Sara Sakalti Boshey Boshey”.
“Maximum singers render the song 'Ami Sara Sokalti Boshey Boshey' with taal while I have learned the number in baitalik from Krishna Chattopadhyay. The audience will find a difference, I believe,” asserted Milia Ali.
The artiste is a Chhayanaut alumna who took lessons in classical music from Ustad Phool Mohammad and Ustad Mithun Dey prior to studying Rabindra Sangeet at Visva Bharati University Santineketan. She has been performing both in BTV and Bangladesh Betar (Radio) since the early '70s. In her 45-year musical career, Milia Ali stayed abroad for three decades, and has performed abroad especially in USA.
