Dumbledore and Gandalf finally get married - across the road from Westboro Baptist Church

And the ceremony apparently went off without a hitch despite taking place directly across the road from Westboro Baptist Church.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling had recently joked on Twitter that there would be a fictional wedding between the two wizards and that it would take place in Ireland.

Westboro Baptist Church affiliated Twitter accounts responded to her tweet by saying they would picket the ceremony.

However, when Gandalf and Dumbledore (played by local actors) finally walked down the 'aisle', or rather lawn, at the front of Equality House in Topeka, Kansas, there were no representatives of Westboro present.

They did, however, make their feelings known on Twitter.

The house is sponsored by non profit organisation Planting Peace and their director of operations, Greg Hammet, led the ceremony.

"May the love in our hearts always grow as we are united as one family beyond Muggle or magic, dwarf of elf," he said.

"May our hearts and minds grow so that we may create a world where teens are not kicked out of their homes fro being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or queer, which is the case for nearly half of the homeless youth in the United States.

"May this fun symbolic rather silly wedding be a glimmer of hope towards a brighter tomorrow to come."
