Third phase of immunisation

The third phase of immunisation under the Indra Dhanush scheme began in Virudhunagar district on Monday. Children below two years of age are immunised for eight types of ailments, including polio, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), Japanese encephalitis and tetanus, at designated centres under the scheme.

According to a press release from the Collector, V. Rajaraman, 865 left out children and 73 pregnant women were immunised in a drive conducted during the first two phases of the programme.

A survey of left-out children was undertaken with the assistance of different government agencies and voluntary organisations in the district.

The third phase of immunisation will go on till June 15 and the fourth phase will begin on July 9.
