Army training inspiring: Jeje and Jackichand

Indian footballers Jeje Lalpekhlua and Jackichand Singh on Monday said the army training ( above ) which the players underwent here as a new concept in team building exercise has inspired and taught them a lesson to remain united while taking on the opponents.

“It was unique for us. The sacrifices made by the Army inspired us,” Jackichand told reporters here.

“It was a wonderful experience. We saw our Jawans doing it with ease. That motivated us and we completed the 21-barrier course. We are a big happy family,” Jeje added.PTI

Wolfsburg’s De Bruyne voted best player of Bundesliga season 

VfL Wolfsburg’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne ( below ) has been voted as the best footballer of the Bundesliga 2014-2015 season, following a survey by the German sports magazine Kicker on Monday. 

As many as 183 Bundesliga professionals took part in the survey and lifted the Belgian international with 52.2 percent of the votes on the first place. 

De Bruyne provided 20 assists and scored 10 goals in this season of Germany’s premier competition. IANS

Bach warns FIFA that reforms will be painful 

International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach ( below ) encouraged FIFA to continue with its reforms on Monday but warned football’s scandal-plagued governing body that the process would be painful.

“We can only encourage FIFA to continue (with) the reforms which have been initiated, we cannot give detailed advice of what to do but we appreciate there is a readiness for reforms,” he told a news conference.

“We also know from our experience that....putting everything on the desk can be a painful experience, but it is absolutely necessary to do this as we have seen from our own history.”Reuters

India leaves for Belgium

The Indian men’s hockey team left for Belgium from here on Monday night to take part in the Hockey World League Semi-Final. 

The 10-team tournament will be played in Antwerp from June 20 to July 5. IANS

Indian women’s team focus on penalty corners

Indian women’s hockey team player Lilima Minz said on Sunday they were preparing well for the upcoming Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final and concentrating on penalty corner conversions. “While the team is working on penalty corner conversions, we are also working to ensure that we get the required field goals also,” Minz said. IANS

British officials to investigate Farah medical records 

British distance great Mo Farah is to have his medical data examined by UK Athletics officials following the controversy engulfing his coach, Alberto Salazar, over doping allegations.

Farah has flown to the United States where he is expected to meet with Salazar.

UKA chairman Ed Warner suggested on Monday that Farah should suspend his working relationship with the Oregon-based Salazar until the allegations have “washed through”.AFP

Four new events in curling, speed skating, downhill skiing and snowboarding have been added to the programme for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.Reuters

Renault may quit F1 next year: Red Bull’s Horner 

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner on Monday said Renault may quit Formula One racing if the game does not permit in-season engine development next year. Renault has a contract with Red Bull and Toro Rosso until the end of 2016. In-season development is allowed this year, but it might be stopped from the next season. 

To change this position would require unanimous agreement from the other teams and for now Mercedes are reluctant to agree. IANS
