Krishnaswamy VijayRaghavan, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, and N. Chandrashekar, chairman and director, Aadithya Adhikari Hospital, Mysuru, were conferred Bhramara’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Bhramara’s Lifetime Service to Humanity Award respectively on Tuesday.
Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami of Suttur Mutt presented the annual awards instituted by Bhramara Trust of YT and Madhuri Thathachari. University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa, Star of Mysore editor-in-chief K.B. Ganapathy and Madhuri Thathachari were present.
A note from the trust said Prof. VijayRaghavan is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences; the Indian National Science Academy; the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World and the Royal Society. A Padma Shri awardee, Prof. VijayRaghavan is the recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prize and JC Bose Fellowship. He is also director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms.
Dr. Chandrashekar’s major service activity is to procure cornea from donors within six hours of the death of a person. The doctor has harvested more than 1,650 corneas and given eyesight to over 3,300 persons.
