NAGPUR: The busy Nagpur railway station has got back the services of the home platform no. 8. Central Railway authorities rededicated this upgraded platform to the passengers from June 8 with the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express now arriving and departing from this new platform.
Development works that have been carried out on platform no. 8 include shed on platform, washable aprons and installation of pipelines for cleaning and filling water in trains, and setting up of steel barricades.
The platform is fully functional now.
Divisional railway manager (DRM), Central Railways, OP Singh dedicated these facilities to the passengers on Tuesday. “We were facing a few problems initially regarding the platform sheds and cleaning of tracks. With the new work, the platform shed has been increased by 200 feet and washable aprons and water pipelines have been installed. This will speed up working and put passengers at ease,” he said.
Railway authorities said Central Railway spent around Rs3.90 crore under its phase II works for development of this platform. Platform number 8 will cater to Duronto Express exclusively for now, Singh said, adding that no other express trains are scheduled to arrive or depart from this platform yet.
