Police help just a click away in the city
GURGAON: The next time you face a law and order problem in the Millennium City, there is no need to panic. Just at the click of a mouse, you will be able to share your problem with cops and even give your valuable suggestions to them on better policing.
In a bid to enhance its interface with residents, the Gurgaon Police will on Wednesday launch a community policing initiative through localcircles.com, an already-existing website.
Police said the portal will connect the residents of the city with each other as well as with cops, with the ultimate aim of improving the law and order in the city.
More than 15,000 people have already enrolled themselves in the community portal and they will come online once it’s floated. The portal will also enables people to alert the rest of the community in case of an emergency or raise common issues and bring them to the notice of both the cops and the community for resolution.
However, the residents will have to follow standard police procedure in order to report a crime. Using the platform, Gurgaon Police will also be able to update and alert citizens on crime-related information, tips, local policing initiatives as well as work with communities and RWAs on neighbourhood watch and community policing.
Issues like chain snatching, crime against women, street vendor encroachments, suspicious activity, etc. can also be raised on the portal.
“This local circle enables all individuals residing or working in Gurgaon to connect with each other and also interact and interface with the Gurgaon Police towards the objective of making Gurgaon a safer city. Citizens can share their views on policing activities and can give their ideas on how to improve them,” said Navdeep Singh Virk, commissioner of Gurgaon Police.

He added, “For any individual complaint or grievance, the citizens are encouraged to approach the Gurgaon Police through the exisiting policing channels. Also, the Gurgaon Police will now be able to widely share updates on timely basis.”
“We have a similar initiative in Delhi. People have been asking for a similar platform where they could broadcast information and notifying the community about what is happening around them. This way people can be the eyes and ears on the ground and also help control crime and solve issues,” said Sachin Tapadia, chief executive officer and chairman of localcircles community media.
