NASHIK: Deputy director of Groundwater Survey Development Agency (GSDA) Ajay Karve on Tuesday said the state government should have adopted a more scientific approach for the works taken under the Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan, a flagship programme that aims at making 5,000 villages in Maharashtra drought-free in five years.
He said construction of barrages has been undertaken at many places without technical study and the results may not be as expected, he said.
Karve was in the city to conduct a workshop on behalf of GSDA’s director for the government officials about water conservation. The workshop was organised by the State Groundwater Authority and the zilla parishad’s water and sanitation department.
“The government has taken support and technical advice from the GSDA at some places. However, it was not possible at all the places due to manpower shortage. The water conservation works require thorough study of the geographical area. The formation of rocks and the type of barrages that need to be constructed as per the requirement need to be considered as well,” Karve said.
