Shoan continues to dazzle

Dolphin Aquatics’ Shoan Ganguly continued his strong run to set two new meet records in the boys’ section on the second day of the State Junior and Sub-junior Aquatics Championship at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre here on Tuesday.

The 10-year clinched the gold in Group IV, 50M butterfly in a time of 32.62 seconds, surpassing the record of Bharath Kumar V (33.10) set in 2000. PM Swimming Centre’s Utkarsh S Patil gave a close fight to the gold medallist before finishing second (32.68). Dhyaan M clocked 33.43 to settle for bronze.

Earlier, Shoan bagged the 200M individual medley gold (2:44.19), once again erasing Bharat’s time of 2:46.24 set in 2000. Shoan now has four gold medals to his credit.  
In the girls’ Group I category, BAC’s Malavika V powered to the top spot on podium in a record time of 9:27.60. The 17-year old erased the meet record of 9:44.25 set by Pratima Kollali (DOL) in 2012.

N Sri Hari (30.29) of Global Swim Centre also placed his names in the record books in the Group II, Boys 50M backstroke along with K Harishree J Rai (32.46), who won the yellow metal in girls Group I, 50M backstroke.
