Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Best Photograph in Sep, entries invited

Jammu, Jun 9 (UNI) With an aim to encourage professionalism in the field of Journalism, Press Club of Jammu, Jammu in its first ever kind of this initiative is going to hold Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards function for best Photograph on his birth anniversary falling on September 21. β€œIt will be an initiative of the first kind by the Press Club of Jammu, which is in the interest of entire Journalist fraternity,” Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Secretary General, said here today. He informed that it will be an annual feature in which the best photographs will be rewarded suitably with a citation. The Secretary General said the awards shall be for three categories with cash prizes of Rs 11,000, Rs 8000 and Rs 5000 while five consolation prizes of Rs 2000 each will also be given. The decision with regard to this was taken in the Management Committee meeting chaired by the President, Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar and entries have been invited from across the state wherein not only the photojournalists but also the citizen journalists (other than journalists) can register themselves before August 15. There will be no specific theme for the photographs and those interested can get the forms on paying a nominal fee of Rs. 100 at the Press Club of Jammu fromJune 15 onwards. Senior and professional journalists comprising Raju Kerni, Mehraj Din, Channi Anand and Shishupal will be among the members of jury to adjudge the best photographs. Each participant can submit only one photograph (size 8” x 10”) to the Press Club of Jammu before or by the last date i.e. August 15. Senior photojournalist Ashok Sodhi attained martyrdom while performing his professional duties during a fierce encounter between militants and security forces at Samba on May 11, 2008.
