Recipe: Sushila (Spicy puffed rice)

Ingredients:

200 gms puffed rice

1 large onion (finely chopped)

1 medium tomato (finely chopped)

2-3 green chillies (slit vertically)

½ tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp coriander powder

1 tsp jeera powder

½ tsp amchur powder

2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp lemon juice

A pinch of asafoetida

½ tsp turmeric powder

1 tablespoon oil

50 gms coriander (finely chopped)

Salt to taste

Water for soaking puffed rice

Procedure:

Soak the puffed rice in water for about 2-3 minutes. Make sure, you don’t add to much water thereby making the puffed rice excessively mushy. Strain the puffed rice and spread it on a plate.

In the mean time, put some oil in a kadhai and add some mustard seeds. Once the seeds splutter, add the finely chopped onion, tomato and slit green chillis. Then add the masalas (turmeric, jeera powder, coriander powder, amchur and salt. Stir well.

Add a pinch of asafoetida and sugar. Now, add the soaked puffed rice and mix well until each grain gets covered with the masala. Now add ½ tsp lemon juice and mix thoroughly. Take it off flame.

Garnish with finely chopped coriander.
