> Zamzam water cure for drug addiction
Local researchers have found that zamzam water (blessed water from Mecca) and black seed (also known as Habbatus Sauda) can curb opiate addiction. Researchers from several local universities led by Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) made this discovery after conducting a study on 250 prisoners in the Marang jail. The RM5mil study was carried out under the Education Ministry's research grant scheme. "An early study found respondents showing positive development after being given zamzam water and habbatus sauda to reduce their intake of methadone, which is used to treat their drug addiction," said UniSZA vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman. He said the research focused on using natural ingredients as excessive use of methadone could be harmful.
> Terengganu MB says okay to implement hudud
Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the state government was prepared and would not have any problem implementing hudud law, but the people, especially non-Muslims, must understand the concept of the Islamic law first. Ahmad Razif said Terengganu would be following closely the implementation of hudud in Kelantan. Terengganu, during the administration of PAS from 1999 to 2004, had introduced a Syariah Criminal Offences (Hudud and Qisas) Bill which was passed on July 8, 2002.
